First harvest of the season! - July 20, 2009

First Harvest

Feels good to harvest from a bunch of buckets of dirt up on our roof. We still have a lot more tomatos coming along with cucumbers, watermelon, a couple of ears of corn, maybe a squash and some mint/basil/fennel…..I love my garden!!!

Tour de France in Terrassa - July 10, 2009

It took 20seconds to watch and 2 hrs of waiting, but heck we had fun! Only wish I had a better camera/lens combo. Hard to shoot at 1600iso with a non-IS 70-300mm lens on a cloudy day. Oh well, here’s a favorite.

Window to the Vineyards - July 3, 2009

An overexposed photo become magical. This was barely touched in post production and is a result of a great chance over exposure, and some beautiful scenery. Enjoy.Window to the vineyards

been a very busy week - June 29, 2009

Been to Montsant and back, and now have a pile of tasting notes to enter into adegga. Regardless the trip was fun and full of interesting twists and turns, not to mention way too much food! Seriously we did not starve on this trip.
Anyways, here’s a favorite pic from our time there…about 500 more to edit through, when I have time!

Dali Museum – Figueres, Spain - June 21, 2009

Dali Museum

I remember studying Dali in college. At the time I felt that his work had become a bit of a cliche, with dorm rooms plastered wall to wall with dripping clocks. A few years back in Chicago I had the chance to see some of his other work, and again in Madrid. Having just visited the Dali museum in Figueres, I have to say that I am starting to like his stuff again, though I’m not in love with it. The museum is a must see, but after leaving it my mind felt abused by the intensity of the imagery. It’s said that Dali spent the last years of his life living at the building/museum/home. I think I would have lost my mind. Intense to say the least. Then again, he was a very talented individual.
All that said, I do love the fact that though you can’t use a flash you can shoot all the photos you want. Dali would have wanted it that way! :)

Kids Playing – Faux Tilt and Shift - June 10, 2009

Kids Playing

There’s a tool called Tiltshiftmaker online that let’s you fake Tilt-Shift photography. I would love to play with a real lens sometime but for now I’m happy to have the chance to fake it. I do want to know though the optic science behind why a simple blurring suddenly makes object appear to be toy like. Odd, and yet so magical. Oh and make sure to click on the photo to get the full effect.

I don’t get it - June 9, 2009

Beach side pool

Benidorm. A beach side village with towers competing for views of the sea. Old people wandering in wheelchairs and motorized seats along the beach. Whale basking by a pool that sits literally yards from the ocean. What am I missing? Why would you subject yourself voluntarily to this? It’s beyond me. But it seems to be big business! :) Might need to figure out how to capitalize on it. (best seen full size)

I'm Ryan, I write a blog about wine and then I try to tell others how to do it too. In the end I like to eat good, meet new people, drink good wine, and love taking photos. You can bribe me with a good Manhattan or any beer with a IBU over 100. If you want to talk to me, start with this.
